Bicycle commuting has leveled off nationally, but some cities are still seeing growth such as Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. I used to commute by bike in Pittsburgh, and the potholes were killers. The last time that I visited Pittsburgh, I saw a significant improvements in the cycling infrastructure. The complete article is here.
For rail trail enthusiasts and those who live in Hagerstown.
This Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at 10:15 a.m. Chip Wood and Dan Spedden will be reporting to the Washington County Board of Commissioners on the proposed 24-mile long Civil War Rail Trail (CWRT) linking the C&O Canal near Weverton to Hagerstown City Park. The meeting will held at 100 W. Washington Street in downtown Hagerstown. Please plan to attend, if possible, to show your support for building this destination trail.
Our neighbor to the south does not have the same quality of cycling as Frederick County and now there is proof. The count has developed a stress map to tell cyclists which roads are good for cycling and which are dangerous. It was written up in Wired.
A variety of club members have ridden Bike Virginia over the years. Registration is now open for 2017, and free jerseys are available if you register by March 31.
