Annual Club Meeting Will Be Held March 18

Please join us for the annual club meeting on March 18, 2017 at 1:30 PM.  It will be held at The William R. Talley Rec Center, 121 North Bentz Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Pizza and drinks will be provided.  Members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Club Elections

We will be holding elections for the club officers at the meeting. We are still open to nominations, and we will accept nominations from the floor at the meeting. If you know someone who might make a good officer, please nominate them.

Annual Awards to Ride Leaders

As in the past, we will give awards to the top three ride leaders of the year. In addition, this year, two additional awards will also be given to others who have led rides this year.  If you have led rides, you will get one chance per ride led.  Two names will be picked and given gift cards.  If you have not turned in your sign in sheets (waivers) please email now to Diana Rabideau at mountainmama807@comcast.net

Speaker

Phil Hefler will speak about the rides and tours he has organized over the years. Phil has been running the Catoctin Challenge and Pedal Pittsburgh for about 20 years now.  The former raises money for Habitat for Humanity, the latter is a really lovely and challenging tour he runs each year.  Phil also runs the early-June Dr. Laura Ride to benefit Autism Speaks – in honor of the son of the late Dr. Laura Chaffiotte, club member and bicyclist extraordinaire, who died of ovarian cancer in early August 2013.

Other activities

There will be pre-meeting rides as usual. Watch the website for details.  An “accessory swap” table will be set up to accommodate items.  No bikes please. A few club jerseys will be available for sale.

Utica Park Rides November 2016 – March 2017

Ride Title:  Afternoon Delight (a.k.a. Afternoon Utica C Rides)

When: March 15, March 22, March 29 Wednesdays,  at 4:00 PM

Where: Utica Park

Length: 15-25 miles at a C pace

Leader: Paul Lentz 301-845-0658, plentz@wildblue.net

Ride Description: THIS RIDE HAS CHANGED FROM 3:00 PM TO 4:00 PM ON MARCH 15, MARCH 22 AND MARCH 29.  Think Wednesday evenings, but earlier. We will spend mid-afternoons during the late Fall, Winter and early Spring searching for the ever-elusive “all down-hill” ride while waiting for the evening rides to return in April. The format is pretty much the same as the summer rides, just earlier. Cue sheets will be available, and the ride pace may vary depending on who shows up. If you’re a strong D rider working to become a C rider and the distance is agreeable, you’re welcome to come and we’ll encourage you along. Call or EMail the ride leader if in doubt. Rides are cancelled if there is significant snow or ice on the roads (also if it’s raining). I will post cancellations on Facebook when possible. One last thing: we’ll be back in time for you to do the “Lights and Pizza” ride.

Monocacy Middle Sunday Rides

When: Sundays at 11:30am

Where: Monocacy Middle School, Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD (map)
Length: C Level, 20 – 25 miles
Ride Leader: Terry Eskuchen.
Ride Description: This is a “no cue sheet ride”. We wander around this side of route 15 (no crossing), picking a slightly different route each week. No go if rain or snow or icy roads. Check FrederickPedalers@yahoogroups.com on Sunday morning for any changes or cancellations.
